Today, 1 in 5 post-menopausal American women takes Hormone Replacement Therapy. HRT is most often prescribed to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances and mood swings. And although HRT might be appropriate for some in this situation, Dr. Bibbins-Domingo, professor of medicine and of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco, reports that the risks for most women taking HRT long-term outweigh any benefits.
Also included in the findings of Bibbins-Domingo, there is limited evidence that estrogen and progestin do help prevent bone fractures. It is also noted that estrogen and progestin increase the risk of stroke, thromboembolisms (blood clots that dislodge and move through the circulation system), gallbladder disease, and urinary incontinence.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has known since the mid 70’s that estrogen causes cancer, knowing this surely the benefits do not outweigh the risk.
First, it is important to follow an anti-inflammatory food diet. You can find a list of anti-inflammatory foods on my blog. Second, utilize a supplement to support your liver. Often times, the conjugation of hormones on top of the toxins that your liver has been filtering for 50 years is just too much for your liver to handle. Women with congestion of the liver will tend to wake up in the middle of the night between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 am.
Supplements will help, but it is important that you to see a licensed health care practitioner when you begin to take supplements. At my practice, Health Pyramid Longevity & Vitality Center, we utilize a rhubarb extract called Estrovera and have seen great success. (In fact, I also take this.) Estrovera is available on my website or you can call my office at 724-295-2100 and we will be happy to ship it directly to you. We also have natural support for sleep, bloating and most conditions that you’d be better off controlling naturally. When a targeted nutrient can enhance your health at the cellular level and alleviate your symptoms with zero side effects then it is the obvious best choice!
So, no matter what you are dealing with, always try a natural approach. You’ll be pleased with how targeted nutrients can help you with any condition from menopause to IBS to MS. Make a holistic approach a part of, if not your main focus of support.
